Snowy McDonald is one of the last old style Indigenous stockmen.

His sight had deteriorated to what he described as a cloudy "soup". His aging vision no longer stretched to the distant hills and he never thought he would hunt kangaroos and emus again.

Within 24 hours of his sight restoring surgery as part of The Central Australian Eye Health Program, Snowy's vision is restored.

Once again, he is able to see the rugged mountain range behind his home. He is already making plans to go hunting and wants to begin passing on his knowledge of horses to his grandchildren.

Langaliki

Artist and great grandmother Langaliki Langeliki could no longer pursue her great passion, painting, due to cataract blindness.

Langaliki was excited yet apprehensive when she was picked up for the 435 km trip to get her eyes treated in Alice Springs.

Following her operation, as part of a week long surgical session co-ordinated by The Foundation together with our partners in Central Australia, Langaliki can now get around on her own again. She can leave the aged care home in which she lives to spend time with her family, and she can get back to her beloved painting.

Gilbray is a real charmer, 70 years old, and a true gentleman; warm, softly spoken and with a quiet, wise way about him.

Blinded by cataract, Gilbray's dream was to once again take out the young men of Elliot and teach them how to hunt the traditional way.

"I'll be able to hunt good when I get my eyes fixed up," he said.

Like Langaliki and Snowy, Gilbray's cataract operation was carried out during one of the week-long surgical sessions co-ordinated by The Foundation together with our partners in Central Australia.
