The Foundation works with the Government of Bangladesh through the national eye care program - implemented by The National Institute of Ophthalmology (NIO) - to strengthen district government eye care services.

The NIO was established by the Government of Bangladesh in 1979 to improve ophthalmic services across the country. Since that time the NIO has been working to increase the skill level and capacity of ophthalmic services throughout Bangladesh.

As a tertiary level eye care service, the NIO is the highest referral point for eye care services in Bangladesh. It provides facilities for the screening and treatment of all ophthalmologic patients including specialised services. The Institute is a centre for research as well as a major training facility for ophthalmic doctors, nurses, paramedics and other ancillary personnel.

The Foundation works closely with Brahmanbaria, Jamalpur, Narail, and Satkhira District Hospitals, and other organisations such as Sight Savers International, Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex, and Child Sight Foundation.
