
Jimmy Little is an extraordinary entertainer who began his singing career in 1956, when he was just 19 years old.
In 2004, he received an Order of Australia, was voted as one of Australia's National Living Treasures and received an honorary doctorate from Queensland University of Technology.
In 2003, he was named NSW Senior Australian of the Year and in 1989 was awarded the honour of 'Aboriginal of the Year'.
Jimmy has won numerous music awards throughout his career, including gold records in 1964 and 1999, two MO entertainment awards and the ARIA Contemporary Album of the Year in 1999 for “Messenger”. He was also made a member of the ARIA Music Hall of Fame in 1999.
Jimmy is committed to Indigenous education, working for the last four years on Indigenous education with the Federal Education Department. In the late 1980s he spent time as a mentor/teacher at Eora College for the Performing Arts in Redfern, Sydney.
Jimmy is a particular supporter of The Foundation's Indigenous Program in Australia with the communities of the Jawoyn region in the Northern Territory.
