Markus and Joshua will compete in one of the toughest races on the planet - the Marathon des Sables, a 250km, seven day stage race across the Sahara Desert in Morocco in March 2008.

To prepare for the marathon they will, in the next 12 months, run the distance on tread-mills and outdoors equal to running from Sydney to Perth.

They're both experienced runners, having taken on The Comrades Ultramarathon together in South Africa in 2003 and will prepare and train together until the race starts at the beginning of 2008.

To cover some of the cost of getting to and finishing the marathon in Morocco, and to help raise money for The Fred Hollows Foundation, Markus and Joshua are planning to sell 'shares of kilometres'  through their networks of friends, family, work colleagues and by approaching companies for sponsorship.

Markus has created a website run4vision where you can buy 'shares' and support the two athletes, and The Foundation, in their challenge to run the marathon.
