Shellie Morris

The Fred Hollows Foundation is pleased to introduce its newest Ambassador, the acclaimed Indigenous singer and songwriter, Shellie Morris.

Joining us in 2007, Shellie has won numerous awards throughout her career including Best Female Artist at the 2004/05 Northern Territory Indigenous Music Awards.

Described as "the Janis Joplin of Jingili" and "the Territorians Diva", Shellie has a loyal and adoring fan base in Darwin, with her successful career in music going from strenght to strength.

Born in Sydney, Shellie always showed a keen interest in music, training in her teens in opera and developing her trademark talent in various choirs.

In 1997 Shellie moved to Darwin and was able to trace her roots back to a grandfather remembered for his skills with guitar and voice, which are now integral aspects of Shellie's performances.

Working closely with the Indigenous community as a motivational speaker and music teacher, Shellie matches this enthusiasm with a continuously successful recording career, having released her latest album "Waiting Road", earlier this year.

Shellie is also a finalist for Album and Song of the Year in the Fourth Annual Indigenous Music Awards and a finalist in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Achievement Awards, The Deadlys this year.

We are proud to have Shellie joining us in working with our Indigenous Program on music and literacy projects with kids.
