‘Fred Hollows: Photos from the field’ exhibition comes to Bondi Junction
A photography exhibition featuring the work of eye surgeon, Professor Fred Hollows, is set to open in Bondi Junction, giving busy Christmas shoppers a special insight into the life and continued work of the celebrated Australian.
Fred Hollows: Photos from the field comes to Westfield Bondi Junction fresh from the walls of Parliament House in Canberra, where the exhibition was viewed by more than 200,000 people earlier this year.
Founding Director of The Foundation, Gabi Hollows, says the exhibition features some of the final photographs taken of Fred working in the field not long before his death in 1993.
“As a local resident, I am really proud to be able to bring this exhibition to Bondi Junction,” Hollows says.
“I hope it will give people a chance to learn more about Fred’s life and The Foundation’s work, which I think is extremely important, given that three out of four people who are blind don’t have to be.”
Photographers featured in the exhibition include Michael Amendolia who captured the final years of Fred’s work in Vietnam.
The exhibition also includes the work of Sydney Morning Herald photographer Brendan Esposito, as well as Hugh Rutherford and Hanh Tran, who have documented The Fred Hollows Foundation's more recent work.
The exhibition will be displayed on Level 3 of Westfield Bondi Junction from 29 November until
5 December.
On Thursday 2 December, Gabi Hollows will make an appearance to meet locals, answer questions and conduct a book signing of Fred Hollows: The autobiography with Peter Corris for visitors to the exhibition.
