Eye surgeon wins 'most inspirational' award

The inaugural recipient of The Fred Hollows Foundation Fellowship, Dr Katherine Smallcombe, has beaten a long list of celebrities to be named Australia’s ‘most inspirational’ young woman by Cosmopolitan magazine.

The annual Cosmopolitan Fun, Fearless, Female Women of the Year Awards recognise the achievements of young Australian women. This year over 230,000 people voted to decide Katherine as winner.

Unfortunately Katherine was unable to attend the special ceremony at the Sydney Opera House due to overseas commitments, however the award was accepted on her behalf by Ruth and Rosa Hollows.

On behalf of The Foundation, congratulations to Katherine for winning this wonderful award.

What we can do

Help keep Fred’s dream alive.

3 out of 4 people who are blind in the developing world don't need to be. Routine treatment costing as little as $25 can restore sight and hope.
