A long walk to save sight
Teams of trekkers led by the adventure fitness group, Wild Women On Top, are hoping to complete a 100km walk of Sydney’s coastline to raise money for The Fred Hollows Foundation.
The inaugural Wild Women On Top Sydney Coastrek will be held over two days on 5th and 6th March. Incorporating some of the most scenic walking tracks in Sydney, the trek will begin at Palm Beach and follow coast and harbour tracks, beaches and headlands before crossing the Harbour Bridge and following South Head tracks before finishing at Coogee.
To date, Coastrek has already raised over $100,000 towards restoring sight to the millions of people who remain blind simply because they cannot afford or do not have access to eye health services.
Managing Director and Founder of Wild Women on Top, Di Westaway, believes that the event is a way that people can test themselves physically and mentally - and at the same time contribute to a worthwhile cause.
“The Wild Women On Top Sydney Coastrek is about vision, and so is The Fred Hollows Foundation,” says Westaway.
“We are supporting The Foundation because our mission is to provide challenging adventures in stunningly scenic locations, which is the perfect link with a charity that devotes itself to restoring sight.”
“If you're not a trekker, you can support the event by donating online to the trekking teams via the ‘Everyday Hero’ website. For as little as $25, you can restore sight in a third world country. This is a whole lot easier than trekking 100 kilometres.”

The Foundation would like to thank the trekkers and everyone at Wild Women On Top. Thank you for helping Fred’s vision live on.
Help keep Fred’s dream alive.
3 out of 4 people who are blind in the developing world don't need to be. Routine treatment costing as little as $25 can restore sight and hope.
