Reaching more women in Nepal

A policy brief co-authored by The Foundation’s Medical Advisor, Dr Reeta Gurung, recommends steps for increasing women’s access to eye care in Nepal.

Gender Equity in Health: Lessons from Eye Care argues that new strategies are needed to treat more women living with treatable blindness. This is vital to achieve the Vision 2020 goal of eradicating avoidable blindness in the next decade. The Foundation is a partner in Vision 2020 - a global campaign.

“Unless strategies to reach out to women are implemented, a disparity which has persisted over 30 years would not change by doing ‘business as usual’,” the brief concludes.

What we can do

Help keep Fred’s dream alive.

3 out of 4 people who are blind in the developing world don't need to be. Routine treatment costing as little as $25 can restore sight and hope.
