Sight restored to over 250 people in Cambodia
The Foundation has conducted a five-day surgical eye camp in the Korng Pisey district of Cambodia, resulting in sight being restored to over 250 people.
Over 560 people received eye examinations during the camp, which took place in the village of Kampong Speu, 75km from Cambodia's capital of Phnom Penh. A total of 196 people received sight restoring surgery for cataract blindness and a further 56 people received operations for other eye conditions.
Without these outreach services provided by The Foundation's team in Cambodia, locals would have little hope but to remain blinded by diseases that are relatively easy to treat.
Last year in Cambodia, The Foundation screened 43,304 people and carried out 10,197 sight-restoring or sight-improving interventions - including 4,168 cataract surgeries. We also trained 753 eye health workers, including 6 surgeons and 357 community health workers.
The Foundation's activities in Cambodia cover seven provinces and reach all levels of the public health system, making The Foundation the largest operational eye health non-government organisation (NGO) in Cambodia at present.
Help keep Fred’s dream alive.
3 out of 4 people who are blind in the developing world don't need to be. Routine treatment costing as little as $25 can restore sight and hope.
