Staff work together for reconciliation
New partnerships, staff development and increased cultural awareness are some of the workplace results The Foundation has achieved through its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
RAPs are an initiative of Reconciliation Australia. They seek to help organisations and businesses set goals and achieve improvements to bring about reconciliation. The ultimate aim is to close the life expectancy gap between Indigenous and other Australians.
A report released this week sets out The Foundation’s progress against 2009 targets.
“Fred Hollows dreamt of a day when Indigenous Australian enjoyed the same health and life expectancy as other Australians,” says The Foundation’s CEO Brian Doolan.
“The Foundation is working every day to fulfill his vision through our Indigenous Program work. But we also want to make sure that our day-to-day workplace practices are strengthening the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.”
Highlights include training, a new Aboriginal Medical Service Alliance partnership, and more staff involved in reconciliation action in the workplace.
As part of the ongoing RAP, The Foundation will report annually on workplace achievements, challenges and future opportunities to improve the lives of Indigenous Australians.
