World Sight Day 2010 - South Africa

On World Sight Day 2010, The Fred Hollows Foundation in South Africa is completing its third week of a special campaign to dramatically increase the number of sight restoring cataract operations at Queenstown’s Sabona Eye Centre.

The Foundation has taken advantage of the presence of a medical team from the Mercy Ships charity - to work in partnership with existing staff at Sabona to conduct three weeks of intensive cataract surgery.

Following Queenstown, the team will move to Mthatha for the final three weeks of the nine week campaign.

What we can do

Help keep Fred’s dream alive.

3 out of 4 people who are blind in the developing world don't need to be. Routine treatment costing as little as $25 can restore sight and hope.
