Preoperative visual acuity of people undergoing cataract surgery in rural and urban Nepal

This article argues that the level of vision that patients have prior to cataract surgery should be used as an indicator for assessing cataract surgical services on the ground. Measuring pre-operative visual acuity will help identify what proportion of surgeries are restoring sight to those already blind compared to the proportion of surgeries that are preventing blindness in people with earlier stage cataract.
